Friday, March 13

Today, reality hit…

Thursday night we went to Ann Arbor to see my father in law, during the entire evening my phone was exploding with texts about other states closing schools… I became concerned that we were next. I was also hopeful that I would get to teach for one more day. There was a news conference with the Governor and the head of the Michigan Department of Education. Schools are closed until April 6th. Emails came, the phone started ringing; I had until 10:30am Friday to get things from my classroom.

Friday was busy… we drove to school picked up some things… saw a few friends… a trip to the rink for costume fitting, a stop by the pharmacy, trip to Campbell’s school for supply pickup, a stop at the carpet store and a visit to Marv’s for meat. The trip to Marv’s was successful and I felt we had enough food for a week. While we were there, I got some stew meat. Tonight’s dinner; vegetable beef soup and cheddar cheese biscuits. Thank goodness I love to cook, otherwise we would be miserable.

Full day one complete…. here we go….

Food, Music and CrossFit

Hello Everyone!

I am a mom, wife, music educator who is home for the next 4 weeks due to COVID-19 in our area. When I left school on Thursday of last week, I expected a school closure. I also thought I had a few more days to get my ducks in a row before staying away from school for an extended time.

Thursday was our last day of school for a while, unbeknownst to us. The day felt eerie with a sense that our worlds were about to change. It was so stressful to make sure students were keeping themselves in their personal space. We take hands for so many singing games, but we weren’t allowed to take hands anymore. Kids sensed something was changing. I just wanted to keep music making joyful; especially since we might not see each other for a while.

So, here we are looking at 3 weeks away from school, and a strong likelihood of additional weeks. I am looking at this time as a blessing. This will be a gift of time at home, CrossFit workouts, time with family, music making and time to make some great food. Join me on the adventure!
